Systems Engineer – Windows & Azure Focus

Windows ServerActive Directory (AD)Microsoft AzurePowerShell AutomationIncident ManagementShift Leadership

Description

GSPANN is hiring a Systems Engineer to manage Windows Server and Azure infrastructure, drive automation through PowerShell scripting, and lead incident response during shift operations.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Manage Windows Server environments (2016, 2019, and 2022), including installation, configuration, patching, upgrades, and troubleshooting.
  • Optimize server health, performance, and capacity through proactive monitoring, flagging risks before they cause incidents.
  • Drive troubleshooting across adjacent dependencies, including network, storage, virtualization, security, and applications, to isolate root cause while retaining primary ownership of Windows and Azure systems.
  • Manage AD, Group Policies (GPO), Domain Name System (DNS), Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP), and related identity services, including user accounts, security groups, service accounts, and access controls.
  • Support AD integrations with cloud and enterprise applications, resolving authentication, authorization, and directory-related issues.
  • Manage Azure Virtual Machines (VMs), Virtual Networks, Storage, Backup, and Recovery services.
  • Support Azure Active Directory (Azure AD), Azure Security, monitoring, and governance initiatives.
  • Collaborate on hybrid cloud environments that integrate on-premises infrastructure with Azure services, and contribute to cloud migration, optimization, and modernization projects.
  • Support virtualized infrastructure underlying Windows environments by applying VMware knowledge to troubleshooting, and coordinate with virtualization teams on VM provisioning, performance, and resource issues.
  • Drive automation as a core responsibility, building and maintaining PowerShell scripts and Azure automation for provisioning, patching, monitoring, and recurring administrative tasks.
  • Develop an automation and Artificial Intelligence (AI) mindset, using AI-assisted tools for scripting, troubleshooting, documentation, and operational efficiency.
  • Implement automated, permanent fixes for recurring issues to reduce repeat incidents and manual effort.
  • Manage the end-to-end patching lifecycle for Windows Server environments, covering planning, testing, scheduling, and execution.
  • Drive vulnerability remediation in coordination with security teams, tracking findings through to closure within Service Level Agreement (SLA) timelines.
  • Implement and maintain security hardening and compliance standards across Windows infrastructure, including compliance benchmark alignment and audit support.
  • Support security assessments, compliance reporting, and remediation tracking.
  • Lead shift operations as the primary escalation point for critical Windows and Azure incidents, directing troubleshooting efforts and coordinating resolution across technology teams.
  • Drive root cause analysis (RCA) and problem management, implementing preventive, automated measures to reduce recurring issues rather than relying on one-off workarounds.
  • Ensure adherence to SLAs, operational procedures, and escalation protocols.
  • Support enterprise Managed File Transfer (MFT) platforms such as MOVEit, troubleshooting transfer failures, connectivity issues, and performance bottlenecks.
  • Collaborate with application owners and business stakeholders on secure data exchange requirements.
  • Manage ticket resolution end to end, including RCA.
  • Build and maintain technical documentation, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and knowledge articles.
  • Support shift operations, on-call rotations, and production support activities.
  • Collaborate with global infrastructure, network, security, and application teams, working closely with the Level 3 (L3) team to operationalize new designs and automation solutions.
  • Drive personal readiness for expanded L3 responsibilities through proactive ownership and initiative.

Skills and Experience

  • Hold certifications such as Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate, Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect, Microsoft Certified: Windows Server Administration, or ITIL Foundation, which is an advantage.
  • Bring 5+ years of in-depth, hands-on experience in Windows systems administration.
  • Demonstrate strong expertise in Windows Server administration (2016, 2019, 2022), AD, DNS, DHCP, and Group Policy.
  • Apply strong expertise in Azure infrastructure services, including networking, storage, and virtual machine administration, and Azure AD (Entra ID).
  • Manage Windows security and hardening, server monitoring, and performance management practices.
  • Develop backup and disaster recovery solutions for Windows and Azure environments.
  • Utilize PowerShell scripting for automation and operational efficiency, including Azure automation tools to reduce repetitive administrative work.
  • Work with VMware-based virtualized infrastructure to troubleshoot and support underlying systems.
  • Apply working knowledge of patching, vulnerability remediation workflows, and security compliance practices, including compliance frameworks and benchmarks for Windows environments.
  • Bring experience with cloud migration and infrastructure modernization initiatives.
  • Manage Incident, Problem, Change, and Service Request processes.
  • Demonstrate exposure to Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) processes and enterprise support environments.
  • Work with shift-based operations, leading critical production incidents as needed.
  • Utilize AI-assisted tools to accelerate scripting, troubleshooting, and documentation.
  • Bring experience with MOVEit or equivalent enterprise MFT platforms, which is an advantage.
  • Work with organizations operating as a Global Capability Center (GCC), Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT), or Managed Services environment.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of cybersecurity controls and compliance standards.
  • Work with automation tools and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) practices.
